Markvart
Markvart Winery is headed by Janos Markvart Jnr, a descendant of a Swabian family from Szekszárd with long roots in the region. Alongside his grandfather, Markvart Jnr relaunched the family cellar in 1996. Today, their vineyards include Baranya Valley, Village, Sauli Valley, Right Hermit, Bakta, and the Gyűszű Valley. One of the Kadarka vineyards is filled with old vines planted in 1935, possibly even before then, offering low yield and intense concentration of flavour.
Markvart Jnr is a self-taught but accomplished winemaker, dedicated to preserving the fruity character of his wines. Barrel ageing and fermentation play less of a role today as he focuses on fruit-forward, purer styles of wine. Markvart is about celebrating the Kekfrankos and Kadarka varieties, along with the famous Bikaver Bull's Blood blends, as representatives of the Szekszard wine region.
