Republic of North Macedonia
The Republic of North Macedonia, an independent state north of Greece, is home to some 22,400 hectares of vines. The vineyards here enjoy a moderate continental climate. The wines are enjoyable in their youth and a few examples have superb potential to mature for the better. Its most famous grape variety is the inky-coloured black grape 'Vranec'. There are also an array of international varieties and indigenous white grapes like Smederevka and Zilavka.
